Hi! My name is Rachel and I had never been to California until January 2017.
Yup that's right. The farthest West I've ever been is Vegas so that's why I was extra excited to take this trip last month to the RTS Leaders Retreat! The Rising Tide Society has been such a wonderful gift in my life. It has put me in touch with a wonderful group of creatives, given me the inspiration and confidence to live the #communityovercompetition spirit and of course brought me the amazingly beautifully sweet angel baby Bethanne.
We got in a couple days before the retreat began so we could explore San Fran, the Painted Ladies, Baker Beach and wine and dine our way around the city. Sunday evening we had a fantastic dinner with a great group of fellow leaders, had some fun on a whim at an impromptu bowling alley gathering and then slept off the festivities to rise bright and early for the conference!
We kicked off the retreat at the HoneybookHQ! We were greeted with a mimosa bar, sweet gift bags full of plenty of RTS swag, useful items and inspirational mementos to keep us pumped! They also gave us all a bottle of OneHope champagne which was possibly one of my favorite parts.
We were able to learn from so many incredible speakers talking about their experiences, their businesses and how they improved upon their systems to become better business owners and better leaders. Of course the sweet, talented fearless leader Natalie Franke led us to some touching moments and inspirational tear-jerkers as usual!
One of my favorite experiences was when Cormick taught us some stress-relieving stretches to add to our daily routine to combat the fatigue and pain that happens when you are often in front of a desk all day. I use them daily now and they make me feel so much better throughout my day! Stretching is the truth people!
Even though it wasn't exactly "beach weather" we headed down to Baker Beach and snapped a few photos of the bridge. It started raining pretty heavily and for some reason the 50 degrees felt like 30. Even then Bethanne managed to snap some amazing pictures!
Plus, look at how cute she is standing on a rainy beach with our little $10 umbrella that broke 2 minutes later!
And when I say she managed to snap amazing pictures, I mean I was the most curmudgeonly, grumpypants in the entire world that day on the beach. Freezing cold and wet, phone dead, probably hangry. I was a LOT to deal with. Luckily Bethanne is a supermom and she's dealing with tantrums so she handled me pretty well.
Later that evening they threw us an 80s themed welcome cocktail party which I decided to go a little extra for and fabricated a Madonna costume a la "Like a Virgin". However, only a few people got the reference (a lot of 90s babies there) so most thought I was just a really drunk bride. Close enough.
Our second day of the retreat was spent at the Westin in Union Square. The second day we really started to settle into our new digs and routine. We had some UH-mazing speakers including a fantastic inclusivity panel, a tear-jerking talk by Natalie and one of the most authentic and inspirational talks by Jenna Kutcher where she stripped down in front of a room of people. (You had to have been there).
When we went on lunch break a few of us went over to the Burger Bar and stuffed ourselves full of gigantic milkshakes and burgers and barely made it back in time for some fun workshops! We did a painting workshop with Art by Megan who I coincidentally had been following on Instagram for months before meeting her in person! Bethanne and I also did a calligraphy workshop and although she is 1000 times better than me, I still managed to knock out some decent work!
The retreat was an amazing trip full of some of the sharpest, smartest business bosses I've ever known and I am thankful to now call some of them new friends! It was also filled with some amazing food, daily champagne intake and my first amazing experience in San Fran! This was definitely an experience I will never forget and I'm so happy to be a part of The Rising Tide Society and cannot wait to see what we do next!
Also, here are some pictures I stole from my new sweet friend Audreys blog because she's obviously way better at taking pictures and blogging than I am! Thus why there are a lot of pictures of her. I mean I'm not OBSESSED with her or anything...but she is pretty cool so it would be totally justified!
