Year in Review and looking forward
There is something special about the ringing in of a new year. Although the gregorian calendar we are accustomed to is definitely a human construct, it still holds significance as in the ending of a chapter and closure of things in the past.
With this of course comes relief, excitement, joy but also sadness. I am invigorated by the prospect of 2017 as I haven't been in quite some time but I'm still sad to see 2016 go and along with it all of the amazing clients and weddings I've been lucky enough to work with. Also, I know my blogging wasn't up to snuff in 2016 so some of these are actually more of a preview than a re cap, but I promise I'll get them done this year!
I know that just because 2016 is over, it doesn't mean the friendship with these incredible people has to be and I certainly plan on catching up on life with them over a cup of coffee or a glass or two of wine. But I thought since the word I'm using to focus my business is "simplify" and within that ushering in more time for self-reflection and meditation, I thought it only apt to also reflect on the beautiful moments I've been able to share with some amazing people this past year. I know the new year is already well underway but better late than never, right? Here are some of my favorite highlights from the past year at The One Moment Events!
For our annual trip I was finally at ease enough to actually enjoy myself. Prior to this every time we would travel I would get some sort of mystery illness so I consider this the first occasion of my kicking my travel anxiety. Or perhaps self-medicating on piña coladas did the trick. Either way, I will always adore my time spent in Mexico and look forward to an upcoming wedding there this year!
Celtic Crowns & Cocktails!
If you aren't familiar with Beaumont House, Love Knot Photo or Catoctin Creek Distillery, I recommend you check them out immediately. I'm not sure which one of this powerhouse trio thought of mixing a flower crown workshop with a photo-booth with amazing cocktails but it was hands down some of the most fun I've had this year!
When I first moved to Northern Virginia, I remember calling my dad and telling him how excited I was that I had this really cool neighbor with similar interests. 4 years later, she is one of my closest confidants, favorite shopping buddies and for sure my favorite gangsta rap dancing partner. I was so happy to celebrate her 30th birthday with a "goodbye to the roaring 20s" party!
Man 2016 was filled with some beauty! I was so lucky to collaborate with some of the most talented creatives in the industry. It was a lot of hard work but so worth it to form these great bonds, create these gorgeous projects and have these experiences!
Natalie & Efrems Wedding
This wedding gets special mention because although I become friends with almost all of my clients, Natalie and I have been friends since we were awkward kids in middle school. From our days of jamming out to the Violent Femmes while painting her bedroom to her taking care of my on NYE when I had one too many fireball shots and try to set myself on fire, I love this girl so much and I freaking adore Efrem. They are perfect humans individually and only compliment each other even more together. I love having them in my life!
My sweet god-daughter was christened and it was such a beautiful, happy moment to be a part of! Also, her face in this picture is the perfect epitome of her sweet, hysterical personality!
Spain was so incredible I made 4-5 part blog post about it that still isn't complete. Maybe by the time I'm done I'll be on a plane back to Sevilla? A girl can dream!
Charlottesville is one of my absolute favorite places in Virginia and our annual retreat to Keswick is always a welcome respite from the chaos of every day life. This trip was full of amazing food and wine, a trip to my favorite vineyard and venue and the best spa day ever.
Blink 182 in Scranton
In middle school I fell madly in love with Blink 182 and shortly after with the show, The Office. Luckily my partner in crime, Bethanne loves both of those just as much as me and we spent a sweet couple days making Michael Scott references and jamming out to one of our favorites!!!
This time Alicia and Julie did a holiday themed wreath workshop that was so beautifully done and so full of warmth and happiness and creativity that I didn't want to leave. Seriously, anything these gals touch is gold!
In 2016 I took over the Manassas/Gainesville chapter of our local Rising Tide Society and I have loved every minute of it. These talented people I've met have been the biggest inspiration and the sweetest souls. In December we raised almost $800 for Promises Animal Rescue and I am so proud to say these ladies made it happen!!!
This is what 2016 was all about. These gorgeous couples let me into one of the most special days of their lives and trusted me with such a giant responsibility. I am so insanely grateful for them and so happy that I was able to be there to witness their love story. What makes me the happiest is calling some of these incredible folks my friends and getting to cherish them in 2017 as well!
