Caroline & David - Dusty Blue Midsummer Garden Wedding
When Caroline first called me to inquire about wedding planning, we immediately hit it off because she had the best sense of humor and the most wonderful laidback personality. I immediately thought “what a dream client!” THEN she told me she had a puppy named Meatball and I would get to meet him when I came over for our first consultation. Immediately I thought that this was probably a murderer who had done a good job at researching the best way to lure me to my death. There was no way a person like this was real. TURNS OUT she is 100% real and not only is she just as laidback and fun as she was on the phone but is funny, smart, has a puppy and has the sweetest, funnies, kindest family as well!
I knew it was going to be fun planning Carolines wedding when we met up for a planning meeting at Delirium in Leesburg and ended up spending 6 hours together drinking beer, getting free t-shirts and then ended up meeting Sparky the Leesburg firefighter dog and hanging out on a firetruck. Turns out we didn’t get as much planning done that day as I had hoped but rest assured we caught up!
David was finishing school in Tennessee so unfortunately I didn’t get to meet him until the day of the wedding. Luckily he was a sweet, charming and kind as Caroline and was an absolute delight to meet and work with! Since Caroline was living in TN at the time, most of our planning was done via the phone and online, sending pictures back and forth, emailing and chatting about all the magical things we could dream up for her big day!
Caroline wanted a romantic, midsummer night in the garden type of feel which made Oatlands a perfect fit for their June wedding.
Here’s a little snippet of how they met and fell in love!
As destiny would have it, Caroline and David would sign up and attend the same European Summer Program. Little did they know that June 2012 would be the most romantic summer of their lives. They met one fateful morning in the Emmantina Hotel off the coast of Greece. As David was eating breakfast, Caroline entered the room. At that moment David knew in his heart that this was the girl he was going to marry. Although it took a little longer for Cupid's arrow to hit Caroline, David's persistence and romantic gestures would make her quickly realize David was the kindest, most handsome and intelligent man she had ever met. She was completely smitten. After breakfast, they would spend the rest of the day learning about each other and exploring the beautiful Greek island of Corfu. Together, they spent a month traveling through Italy, France, Germany and Spain, each day falling more in love. Fast forward and their adventures continued from the islands of the Caribbean to the streets of New York City and finally to Memphis, Tennessee, where David popped the question, and Caroline enthusiastically (there may or may not have been tears of joy) agreed to spend the rest of her days married to her best friend.
When you’re as lovely as Caroline and David, you have quite a lot of close friends which made up their 24 person wedding party, including Carolines mom, who was her maid of honor!
We were dodging rain all day and made a very last minute executive decision to still host their ceremony outdoors in the boxwood gardens. 15 minutes before we were to start, the Oatlands crew, caterer and our team were flipping and wiping down ceremony chairs as guests began to enter. Just as we started, the clouds parted and the sun began to shine.
Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the upper garden and then were welcomed into the dinner tent just as the rain started back up again. We set the scene with a mix of farmhouse tables and warm textured off-white linens, french cross-back chairs and glass gold beaded chargers to add a little glitz to the cozy surround.
Julie with Beaumont house created beautiful garden-inspired centerpieces and tall statement pieces of olive to bring the garden into the dinner.
There were a couple fun surprises for guests as Caroline and Davids friend and musician Daniel Emond sang their first dance song and then Carolines dad made a cameo performance later in the evening with his very own rendition of Coldplays-Yellow and played the keyboard too!
Despite the summer heat and the spots of rain, guests celebrated, dined and danced the night away. The evening finally came to a whirlwind end with a bubble sendoff and Caroline and David heading to Hawaii to celebrate as Mr and Mrs!
