Sarah & Shawn Purcelleville Wedding at The Barns at Hamilton Station
Sarah and Shawn are two of the best people on earth.
Yeah, I said what I said.
From the very beginning of the process I absolutely adored them, their sweet love for each other and the incredible content of their character. I first met with Sarah at The Barns at Hamilton Station where we sat outside and drank wine and chatted about her vision. I love that Sarah had some general ideas of what she wanted and was looking for guidance to make her dream a reality. Her infectiously bubbly personality and sweet caring nature were so inviting I couldn't wait to jump in!
Sarah picked a beautiful, classic, blush pink and ivory color scheme. Playing off of The Barns' rustic interior and beautiful landscape, she knew she wanted it to be beautiful, fun and a great experience for everyone.
The ladies got ready that morning at Lansdowne resort where they enjoyed a leisurely morning of being pampered by Agape for their hair and makeup. Afterwards they headed over to the Farmhouse to get dressed and start the party! Every one of her bridesmaids were just as beautiful and sweet as Sarah!
The groomsmen, on the other hand were a fun, rowdy, incredible bunch that we had way too much fun with! Upon getting them settled upstairs in the farmhouse we immediately heard laughter and gangsta rap blaring from a portable speaker they had brought. The party had officially started!!!
One of my absolute favorite moments from this wedding is Sarahs first look with her dad. Her family is one of the kindest, warmest most incredible ones I've ever met and the moment when they saw each-other that morning is something that cannot be described in words but captured so beautiful by Bakerture. Their expressions make me think of Sarah being a little girl and dad coming home from a long day of work and swooping her up into his arms and snuggling her at the door only this time it was her in her white dress at the beginning of her journey marrying her soulmate. (And no I totally didn't have to take a break from writing that to go wipe my tears away if you're asking *sniffle*)
After Sarah had her moment with her dad, it was time for the first look with Shawn. I absolutely adore when couples do a first look, it's such a special, meaningful and intimate moment and makes the day just seem so much more magical. Sarah and Shawn met each other in the vines and Shawns reaction to his beautiful bride was equally as wonderful
After their sweet first look it was portrait time!! Sarah and Shawn were whisked away for pictures with their amazing bridal party next to the old barn and the pictures are some of my absolute favorites! You can almost feel that warm summer air on your skin!
I mean, I want to party with these guys!!!
Sarah kept the flowers simple for her bridesmaids in beautiful white hydrangea blooms that looked oh so perfect against their blush bridesmaids gowns!!!
When portraits were over, it was time for these two to get married!!!!! Sarah and Shawn were married on the lawns of the Barn facing the pond surrounded by their friends and family. If you were wondering if the beauty, excitement and fun stopped here, you would be wrong!
When Sarah and her dad stepped out of the barn and everyone stood it was as if time stood still. That beautiful golden summer light filtered down on everyone and "There is Love" played softly on the air.
I love that when the officiant pronounced them man and wife and said Shawn could kiss his bride he went for it!!! Way to go Shawn!!!
After the ceremony guests enjoyed live music, hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and lawn games while the wedding party snapped a few more pictures. The summer sun was beginning to set and dinner was about to be served!
The handmade and heartfelt touches on this wedding were some of my favorites. The guest list was hung from an old garden gate that Sarah and her mom had gotten from Lucketts down the street and Shawn handmade wine charms for each of the guests place settings!! What a special, perfectly appropriate and useful takeaway for guests!
Sarah and Shawn joined in with their guests for some really funny, heartfelt and wonderful toasts to a couple who is obviously incredibly loved. Then dug into a delicious BBQ dinner from Smokin Willys! Funny thing about that too...
I've been known to sometimes talk with the intention of saying one thing in my head but sometimes coming out a big jumbled. There is another bbq company that caters weddings called "Shawns BBQ" and because my mouth sometimes goes without my brain catching it, I had an entire hour long conversation with Sarah repeatedly calling her catering company "Shawns BBQ" because I was mixing up Shawn & the fact that her catering was bbq. It wasn't until we were almost off the phone and I was doing a final review that I realized I had essentially been telling her all the things "Shawn" would be doing like setting up tables, chairs, place settings, serving food, cleaning up etc. Because she is so sweet she never called me out on it and didn't make me feel dumb when I finally realized and explained that her groom would NOT be doing all of those things. Wedding planner brain does that sometimes...Sorry Sarah (and Shawn!)
For dessert they opted for a small cutting cake and then miniature cupcakes in the most delicious variety of flavors! carrot cake w/cream cheese frosting & filling, mini banana cream pie, tiramisu, piña colada, chocolate mint and lemon raspberry! They were super popular and being bite-sized meant they were perfect for grab and go while guests danced!
Plus, they had the most adorable little cupcake toppers that were actually Sarahs grandparents from their wedding cake! How sentimental and perfect!
After dinner Sarah and Shawn provided their guests with a cigar bar on the patio and a full blown dance party upstairs in the barn.
As the dancing carried on into the night, Clara and I set up luminaries outside for their grand exit. Unfortunately for us there was a random intense summer rainstorm that came through as we were setting up and we had to hurriedly grab all of the luminaries that had been setup, run inside soaking wet and wait for it to pass. Fortunately it did and we were able to light the path to the shuttles.
For their last dance, Sarah and Shawn danced and sang along with all of their guests to a hearty rendition of Garth Brooks "Friends In Low Places" which is a song that is impossible not to sing along to and everyone quite literally kicked off their heels to join in.
The party didn't stop there of course! After their sendoff the guests were shuttled back to the Lansdowne to keep the party going. And even though the party technically did eventually end that night, with a couple like this, the fun never actually stops!
Sarah and Shawn, you two will forever be one of my favorite couples and I wish you all of the peace, prosperity, joy and happiness that you bring to other people to be returned to you tenfold.
